Project Field Supervisor
Contract – 1989 to 1994
Mountain goat populations declined in west central Alberta outside the national parks, between 1980 and 1986, despite conservative harvest regimes1. In southwestern Alberta, populations have shown little increase or range expansion, despite harvest closure1. Survey trend data identified poor productivity combined with poor survival, especially of kid and yearlings, as causal. In response, the provincial goat harvest was terminated in 1988.
